Apparently, the diet food and limited portions has not stopped her weight from increasing and we were told to limit her food intake further. We practiced it this weekend only to discover she can tell there is less food in the bowl. She was knocking her bowl around at 11:00 last night demanding to be fed. The hubby and I have different views of how to handle the situation. He thinks we should let her be happy and feed her our previous limited amount. I think we should try the new method for a while and see if she adapts because I'm worried about her. What do you think?

Although I am hardly one to talk about overweight creatures, the limited amount may keep her happy for now, but there may be diabetes shots and an early death in store. Keep limiting and see if she adapts. She's nagging at 11 PM because she KNOWS you want to sleep. Let her go for now and see. (Of course, if she's very hungry, and you sleep too long, she'll think you're dead and may start nibbling at your choice parts.)
I agree with Delia. Cleo will not starve to death and as long as you don't give in and feed her whenever she wants, she will adapt.
I was going to say the same thing about the diabetes. Edith's cat had diabetes and Edith had to give her shots twice a day and buy special food, and the shots caused her to go to the bathroom excessively so she was buying twice as much kitty litter and it was impossible to keep the boxes clean, and then the cat started peeing in the house and Edith had to keep her in a cage when she wasn't home and make special arrangements for a friend to come in and give her shots when she was away, and it was a horribly stressful experience for her, not to mention how sickly her cat looked and how poorly she probably felt all the time.
I'm gonna compare your kids to my kids cause thats all I can go by. (I have no pets) When trying to teach the young one to sleep all night. I thought she would never get it. However I stuck to my plan and look she sleeps all night. Cleo will adjust to the new eating limitations. Hang in there and dont give in. Jo Ann-
Awwwww. Poor kitty! Even though we have had our differences, I never like to see an animal suffer. Pat her on the head and let her know that I'm thinking about her.
