Discoveries of the Week

I discovered several things this past week that I felt the need to share:

1. Starbucks has this amazing caramel flavored coffee. Yum! I bought a package to make at home. Truly, yummy!

2. Sarai and Kevin are the cutest couple ever. I can't help it! They are still in their honeymoon phase, but it's darling to watch. This weekend was Sarai's birthday and Kevin made the arrangements for her party and baked and decorated not only one but two cakes. Seriously, this was so adorable.

3. Don't call me on my day off to fix the website then give me attitude when I call back to verify that the site is up on your end. I was sleeping when you called as it was my day off and did not give you attitude, so return the favor.

Caffeine Addict

It's time I admit a problem of mine. I have a horrible addiction to caffeine. For Lent last year, I gave up coffee and succeeded in not drinking any until Easter. I am back to my morning brew, but have only had more than one cup a handful of times this year. For the coming Lent season, I am debating giving up all forms of soda. This is becoming dangerous territory for me. I am honestly unsure if I can handle giving up the soda.

I determined my addiction began in Tampa and was pleased to find proof to my theory. I have always chugged sodas. I honestly can't remember when I didn't crave them. My parents used to limit our intake growing up but once I was on my own, I always had soda in the fridge.

I did not become a coffee drinker until I worked for the library in Tampa. There was always a pot brewing in the back and everyone was always drinking. I sort of fell into it. At one point, I even offered to help in the coffee-making rotation. After my first horrible brew, I was asked to never make it again. Starbucks, Seattle's Best, and Indigo became my friend. When I moved up north, one of my friends gave me a gift card as a farewell gift to keep my supply going.

Reading the report was a little scary in seeing how many people take caffeine tablets. I have thankfully avoided those, even on my worse days. So here's to my plan of going off soda in the next month.

Coffee is my Friend

I am a caffeine addict! I know I should cut back. I know the health issues it causes. I was recently lectured again concerning my caffeine intake. I'm one of those who stops for a cup of coffee on my way to work. I sometimes stop and get some more during the day. It is very easy to do with a coffee shop downstairs. I also supplement this with a few sodas through the day. But I really do love the smell and taste of coffee.

For Lent this year, I decided to go drastic and gave up coffee. For six weeks, I have had no morning brew in the morning to energize me, nor a late afternoon pick-me up. I have continued my soda intake, but it's not the same. People have said it wasn't a sacrifice since I didn't cut caffeine out. To them, I say, yes it was. The coffee smell from my coworkers morning java tempted me. Considering I have been severely lacking sleep in the past few weeks, this has been a large sacrifice for me.

Tomorrow, my plan is to have my first cup of coffee in weeks. I can't wait to savor the aroma and taste. My hope is to limit my intake to a few times a week. For those who said I could not accomplish this, well...hmm...who knew I had such willpower.
